Default Got a ticket for open headers..

Well technically the ticket was for "defective equipment (exhaust)". I have TSP true duals ready to go on (tomorrow morning) with Sweet Thunders. He said if I can get my exhaust fixed, the judge would dismiss the ticket. He also told me to get high flow cats or at least gutted cats (I laughed in my head when he said this) or else it would be a federal offense and can be up to $2,500. Is it true that no cats in Texas is federal and $2,500?

I'm getting the TD's put on tomorrow by a local shop, can I just bring the receipt to the judge, and he'll dismiss it? Or would they physically look at my exhaust and check for cats?

ps... The cop was actually pretty cool.
C "Pop the hood"
*I pop it*
C "What brand long tubes are those?"
Me "Pacesetters"
C "Ceramic Coated?"
Me "Of course"
C "Good choice"

C "Get you some high flow cats. The ones that don't really do anything, but somehow pass emissions. That's what I have on my car. Or at least some gutted ones in case someone else checks."

Least he wasn't a dick about it. I ran my car open headers for a long time with no problem, it wasn't untill i slapped on a 3" x-pipe and cut my sweet thunders off and ran straight pipes did a cop give me a ticket. He put it as defective so you can just tell the judge you had a hole in your exhaust, thats the reason it was so loud. When i went to court for mine, i just showed the reciept showing i had my sweet thunders put back on and the judge dismissed it.

at least its not in new jersey, my father bought a monte carlo back in the 70s and he took it to inspection. they found out that the cats were takin off, which he didnt do and didnt even know about. they came to arrest him over that. haha. he freaked and told them he had no clue that the cats were gone. but this was back in the 70s, so i dont know if it still like that now.

It is a federal offense and a huge fine. Are there ways around it, yes.

Sweet, hopefully I can just show the judge the receipt from tomorrow's install, and tell him/her that the defective mufflers were replaced.. Is the cop going to be there when I appear before the judge?

It was "M. Baxter". He had a partner with him though, that also peeked under the car with a smile. Maybe he was jack johnson? They were bike cops, if it means anything. What part of round rock are you in, Devilmonkey?

Wow, 5k a cat.. Imagine how much money Cali would make if they enforced that.

Thanks for all the help guys

yeah atleast here in virginia the cop has to show up in court or else your ticket will get dismissed.

Im gonna get a custom y pipe soon with cats flanged in, then imm gonna get a test pipe with flanges to put on when i want. Could also leave it off for open headers.

how about in alabama? No emmisions checks....ever. Cops won't give you a ticket for exhaust but if they do, they would put it for noise ordinance

No sniffer here either. There is talk about emissions testing soon, but chances are it will be a OBDII scan and thats it.

I love living in Alabama. Some of the cops around here have asked me what I had done to the car This was after my true duals with no cats
