sorry to hear that. I know the feeling it sucks. but on the other hand it's a pretty good reason to forge it and more power.

lmao with 3 blocks maybe we can make an 8.4L Viper V10 LS10

Seriously, I dunno why these motors gernade, mine was running STRONG no skips no misses with 94k on the clock, all maintence, no nitrous ever, I dunno what happened with mine even after we tore it apart. both rods broke in the center is all we could ever figure out.

When you get yours tore down please, let me know what happened.

To the OP did you happen to notice if you lost oil pressure?

Pretty much means your motor blew up

I didn't notice a drop in oil pressure prior to the problem, the whole thing just went at once. I would assume it dropped after the motor punched a baseball sized hole in the pan tho

Ill probably tear it down over Christmas break and see whats going on. Hopefully ill be able to buy a new block and re-use most of the parts. At least then ill know if something is wrong or worn out before i drive it

Damn used motors

Might have been an oil pump on it's way out if you were noticing a drop in oil pressure. Did it leak any oil? Maybe it was just low on oil?

I know the feeling. '98 block, 70K miles, all maintenance, and after my cam swap, it lasted 100 miles of easy driving with perfect oil pressure before mine let god.

mine was a 1999 so I doubt its year specific since the 99 didnt have the 98 oiling thing, something about a restrictor plug or somethin like that.

did you swap out your oil pump for a better one and change the gaskets?

Mine was a 98. I don't think it's a year specific thing. It just looks like that because of the frequency of 98s blowing up. I think it's just because they are getting old and have a lot of miles.

Couldn't help but jump in on this thread as I kept thinking about a marine starting up the engine, counting to three then sticking it in drive and leaping out. BOOM... sorry bout your luck though.

Anywho, LS2 block is cheaper....

Let the snow ball effect begin! My 99 engine had 4 cracked sleeves. I was just gonna rebuild another stock one...

Now I'm building a 402 and it will cost just a little more than a 346 hehehe...

I wouldn't say it would just cost a little more. All the stuff I've bought for my backup / possible camaro engine has been super budget.

$300 shipped BNIB Diamond pistons
$270 shipped Scat H beam rods
$0 Have a stock crank
$280 shipped CNC Ported 806 castings set up for solid roller

Things I need
Block $350
Balancing / Machining (same for any engine)
Rings (same for any engine)
Bearings (same for any engine)
Gaskets (same for any engine)

The only additional costs involved in mine are the solid roller pieces. I'll probably still come out under what your 402 setup costs by a considerable margin. I'm not knocking you, just don't make generalizations. I agree with you to an extent though. You can do budget large displacement builds .....
