Its not the oil's fault that his car is burning it like crazy. That is a ton of oil to burn and more than likely it is not because he runs mobile 1. There are a ton of people that swear by Mobile 1 and there are people who don't like it at all. Your best bet would be to just try the different oils out there and see what your car runs smooth on. Most people on here run Mobile 1, Pennzoil Platnum, German Castrol, Supertech Wal-Mart oil, Redline, etc. You know what the good stuff is, give it a shot. Right now I am using Pennzoil Platnum 7.5w30 (runs nice), but I think next summer I am going to put in Mobile 1 0w40 or 5w30.

The big complaint is that it isn't full synthetic anymore, but they still charge full synthetic price.

A car should always burn more synthetic than it will dino oil of the equivalent weight, synthetic works it's way pasts rings etc better than dino oil.

If he is driving it hard, he well damn sure burn a little oil, the car is designed to with low tension rings. A slight amount of blowby is normal under regular driving and slightly mroe under heavier driving. 2 quarts in 1500 miles a extreme though, either he thinks he's an indy car driver or you are getting more blowby than usual, which is just something he would have to live with unless he wants to pull the engine.

He is over 60 and really does not drive it hard at all. I heard the 2001 had soft rings, any one have any complaints about the ring of the 02 models. Could this be a problem for 02's burning oil as well?? ---Thanks

I'm a Mobil 1 supporter. Test have shown that it has the lowest amount of engine wear among synthetic oils. My Honda used to burn it but that's because it was a Honda. lol

It can, but it has the superior LS6 pcv system that should keep it way below the amount in question

Do you guys change your own oil? how much are you putting in and /or are you checking it right when it gets back from the oil change place? Tons of old school guys just throw in 5 quarts because that's how much every 350 they have ever owned required, but the LSx engines require more.

I use M1 5w30 in everything. Cars, lawn mower, and air compressor.
Seems to work ok.

regardless of whether it is the best for the money or not, it isn't crap, and there are more issues here than just mobil1. Mobil1 is nto what it used to be, but it is still a decent competitor and is better than tons of other oils. Again, we need to know what mroe is going on here because to blame it entirely on the oil is likely a mistake

I and many others still use Mobile 1 in our Z06 Vettes. I have heads, cam, headers, intake and 450 rwhp with over 72,000 miles. I use a qt. in about 5500-6000 miles. Been the same consumption since new and I do drive it hard. So, maybe, you need to look into why it is burning so much oil.
Some 01 Z06's did have oil burning problems. But that was for 01's, 02 thur 04 Z06's had different rings. Dealers did fix the ring problems for 01's under warranty.
Good luck..............

my 99 has had mobil 1 fully synthetic 5w30 since the 1st oil change. i like it, worth the cost to me b/c ive never had an oil related issue. i burn mabey 1 quart in 4 - 5000 miles , i do put in 5 quarts plus fill the oil filter full and then add 1/2 quart. so probly 5.75 quarts an oil change.
