Default Generic Alternator Questions

Just a general question about alternators. Is there a difference between alternators? Some good, some bad, etc..

Going to need a new alternator soon and was looking at just picking up a generic one from Carquest up the street. Good idea or does anyone have any better recommendations?

It's for a 00 Trans Am, no extra goodies like a better sound system or anything like that.

Buddy of mine had problems with a couple parts store reman units before getting a new GM unit if that's what you mean - your experience might be different. If carquest has a tester have them do that first before leaving the store.

Well the difference between the new and the reman is only $30, so I was going with the new one.

So as far as new ones go there isn't any difference brand to brand for the most part?
