NEW Flowmaster Super 44 Single In/Dual Out Muffler
This is something I just found that's very interesting. Flowmaster's new Super 44 mufflers also come in single 3" in/dual 2.5" out. I've never heard of anyone trying to use these for a catback. Why not?
The case dimensions are 4" x 9.75" x 13."
I can't see it flowing that badly. There's nothing much to it and it's labeled as their best flowing 2-chamber muffler ever.
Looks like the flow path is pretty good, especially in comparison to the 80 series:
YEESH, it's like a labyrinth in there.
Now, according to Flowmaster's installation instructions, the 80 series muffler in the catback for the 1998-2002 F-body is #530831. On Flowmaster's website, the muffler listed as 53083 has case dimensions of 5"X10"X17". This makes this muffler SIGNIFICANTLY SMALLER (and lighter) than the 80 series, so it'll definitely fit.
So, let's understand something: the muffler is smaller, lighter, it flows better and produces the coveted Flowmaster sound...in fact, it may produce an even BETTER sound since it's a muffler more geared for true dual applications and for Mustang's. It should be louder, too....so why doesn't anyone try this?
If there's anyone out there that wants to try this muffler, feel free. I'd love to see it for sure. It also comes with an off center inlet, too.
That may or may not be better suited for F-body applications.

I'm not sure. Judging from the pictures of the 80 series, this muffler is laid out the same. It's hard to tell looking at the pictures, but it looks to me like it would work. It looks like it's too short to fit in the stock muffler location, but a few inches of pipe would fix that right up.
Even if the inlet/outlet locations don't work well, you could always have tailpipes bent at a muffler shop. You see all these people making custom true dual setups to get that Flowmaster sound. Why not make a custom y-pipe setup using this muffler? It'll probably sound better than any catback on the market right now, plus be a lot cheaper and have better ground clearance in general. This muffler doesn't look to be nearly the flow restriction the 80 series muffler is, so it should perform well, too.

No it will not work. The 80 series has an inlet and outlet on the same side. That forty series in both outlets on the same side with the single inlet. I can take a picture of an 80 series if you dont get what i am saying.

Guys, it'll work. Just have a tailpipe bent. With all the work people go into fabbing up true duals, all they have to do to use this is fab up a single tailpipe to make use of the other outlet.

Here, take a look at my 1st grade quality drawing (shut up).....this is how you run a muffler like this on an fbody. I know for a fact at least one aftermarket manufacturer makes their f-body catbacks this way (can't remember who), but I've seen a few of them. There's plenty of room and it's super easy to do.
I've got super 44's on my C10 and they sound killer. I think one would sound real good on an f-body with headers.

i have seen that catback your talkin about with the tailpipe that wraps around. this muffler will work, and i really dont think it would be very hard at all. Honestly i loke the flowmaster sound, but the 80 series sucks *** period. i think the super 44 would sound pretty good on there. i cant believe no one has put one on yet.

Flowmaster probably sells more mufflers than any other company and no one else has problems. You got one bad one out of millions and Flowmaster sucks? How does that one work?
