The factory engine temp sensor will not work with an aftermarket gauge. It's dosen't even go to a gauge in an OEM set-up. It goes to the PCM which drives the gauge through a serial connection to the cluster. There is an aditional place to install a sensor toward the back of the passenger side head but the threads are metric and incompatible with aftermarket sensors.

m12x1.5 thread for the coolant temp sender locations. I used a new temp sender from egauges with that thread pitch and ran the autometer gauge right to it. Works good.

There is also a large freeze plug in the block that you can unscrew and put it there. I have had mine in both places and it reads the same either way. The plug is right under the headers/manifolds on the block. A company called Equus makes the adaptor you are looking for to go into the head. Be careful because the way it is machined makes it very easy to break if you overtighten it.

Autometer now has a metric sender available. I think I paid about $10 including shipping.

+1. I bought that one but had to grind the inside of the coupler and the outside of the sender to get them to fit together. No biggie though.

FWIW, the metric sender I bought from Autometer screwed right into the block, no fittings.

I already ordered and recieved my m12 by 1.5 adapter... the problem is that the hole is not big enough to fit the sender in the adapter fitting. What is the part number of the metric sender?
