Default Solid motor mounts, pros and cons

I heard that solid motor mounts and a poly trans mount will help performance. Is this a good thing to do on a street driven car? Any problems associated with this? Thanks. How nice are the gains?

You will have possibly faster and more firm shifts. No problems with engine moving and possible rubbing anything when torquing. Less associated noises like that Y pipe banging on the floor. Stronger front suspension. Much like having a strut tower brace. Never have to replace like rubber mounts. Usually lighter weight. I don't think anywhere near .2-.3 tenths but might pic up a couple hundredths.

You will get vibration mostly at idle. Possible to break things easier with high hp/torque engine. I had a Mustang and actually crushed a Ground Pounder K member with solid mounts. The Ground Pounder passenger mount was weak but may not have crushed with a factory rubber mount. Tried another brand K member and worked fine. My point is that it does put more load on the K member. Based on my observation of my Performance Automotive K member I suspect it would crush it with solids.

I would think it would have some teeth chattering vibration if it is a daily driver, especially at idle. I wouldn't do the solid mounts in my car, JMO. Try it and let us know.

I talked to a tech guy at SLP one time about doing this . . . he said don't do it, becasue LS1's put out some very nasty vibrations at certain rpms. He said GM used extra soft engine mounts because of this, which would explain why headers are always banging the floor boards. I'd say give it a try with polyureathane mounts first; they're cheap and easy to change back if the bad vibs get to ya.

Lotsa good advice from people who have never tried em......

I am running solid mounts with a PA K member and I cant tell theyre there surprisingly. No difference AT ALL until I floor it and my headers dont BEAT MY FLOOR PAN TO DEATH. Also helped at the track, car likes to go straight now and no more engine torque.

BTW, I dont have my knock sensors desensitized and I still get ZERO knock through out the rpm band

this is JMO though

I run solid motor mounts with a solid roller motor, no knock retard at all! The car is as straight as an arrow when it launches.
