i need some help... i went to get the emission test today so i could get my license plates and it failed...the car is a 98 with 60k miles on it...it has catback flowmaster, high flow lid, 160 thermo, and hypertech programming....the test said something like...
MIL command status: fail
MIL engine off: fail
02 sensor heater circuit malfunction
the codes that showed up were p0161 and p1416
any ideas what the problem could be and how to fix it?

P0161 is 02 sensor heater performance, bank 2 sensor 2 (passenger side after cat). P1416 is secondary AIR, bank 2 and usually just a clogged passenger side air check valve. You can replace the valve yourself and it's not expensive.

I'd get under there and look at the sensor connector and wiring first. You can look up the description/full diagnostics at gearchatter.com. If you don't have a scan tool you could swap the rear 02's from side to side, clear the codes, then see if the code moves to the other bank to verify if it's the sensor.
