Default Exciter wire

I can jump my car off and it'll start and run but as soon as I try to start it the batt/starter just clicks. I've replaced my battery and my alternator. Should I try replacing my exciter wire next? I hear it's the small red wire that goes to the top of the alt. Where does it go from there?

Man, check your connections, especially the grounds. I'm not much help but I want to see how this unfolds. Good luck there.

Sounds like the battery to me since it starts and runs after jumping it. I'd have it load tested.

Jump it and after it starts, use a volt meter to see if the alternator is charging. If it is, then you have either bad battery or bad connection at the cable.

Is your starter hanging? Kind of sounds like it is. Whenever this happens crawl underneath and tap the starter with a hammer and have a buddy turn it over and see if it doesn't fire up. If so then you have a bad starter...

I have an optima red top (less than 1 yr old) load tested @ batteries plus and they say it's a good battery, I just replaced my alternator (160Amp) and I double checked my grounds. How could the starter be messed up if starts when I jump it off. Car just clicks when I try to start it on it's own power. Battery reads 11.2V when I test it w/ the car off. When I jump the car and it's running I have 13.8V. If anyone else can help I would appreciate it!

Yes, it used to read lower than normal so I bought a 160A alt. Now it reads about 13ish on the voltmeter but still is giving me problems. Where is the little fuse located? Near the injectors?

no, its a few inches off the plug of the alternator. the wire flares out just a little but you can tell the difference. ( at least thats how it was on my 00 t.a)
just go to the local parts store and they should have it. hope this helps. id take a picture but my cars in the shop atm.

start the car and put a volt meter on positive and negative battary terminals should be charging at 13.8- 14.3

if thats good get a load tester for the battary with the car off put a load on it and see if it dies down after ten seconds

and when you check the alternator rev it a little too to make sure it increases with rpm and is not just stationary
