Default car is back firing at high rpms

getting on the freeway today, my car back fired 1st through 3rd when shifting @ 5000ish rpms It has been doing it in 3rd for sometime. Its just getting worse. I am about due for a tune up. Could that have any effect on it? Anything to do with my exhaust? I have 3 inch duals that dump at the axle and dynamax bullets. I'm @ 92k on the odometer. Thanks for any ideas.

Change your fuel filter. You may be leaning out at high rpms. If your plugs and wires were bad, you'd have this problem at low rpm. Fuel filter should cost <$20, so change it and let us know whatsup.

Check for any vacume leaks intake area hoses on the back of the intake. if a plug wire came loose, cleen your maf with CRC MAF cleener only.
And I'd do a tune up get some good plugs AC DELCO uridiums are a 100,000 mile plug thats why their 6 bucks a peice.

I've got NGK TR55s in there now. They have been great. 6 bucks a piece is a little bit ouch I'm probably due for a new fuel filter by now too. I'll check for leaks Thanks for the advice! Hope it helps!
