Default dumps at cats stock manifolds

anybody ever run turndowns straight off the stock cats? i think im going to do that to tide me over till I can get some lt's. I disconnected the catback today but left it in place just to see how it sounded, and despite the rattle and rasp from it being left in place I think it sounds pretty good. should i just run turndowns or fab up an xpipe or something and run dumps from that? I just hate having the rear bumper but no tips sticking out. oh well though, it should only be a temp thing. tell me if this is dumb or not please

Then get a manual one. That's what I have and it isn't that bad to uncap/cap it. With stock manifolds you will most likely want it uncapped all the time anyway. $30 for a manual cutout and about $30 for the install. Not too much money at all.

i ran for about 4 months with the cats. my pipe on the right side broke off right at the weld on the cat and i was getting long tubes so i figured why fixed it. The car seemed fine, I just tuned out the rear O2 senors with hp tuners. Thats about the only problem i can see that you might have. This was my daily car at the time, the only thing, driving on the highway it drones doing bout 70-75mph.

well the cats are still hooked up, though i do have the o2 sensor eliminators to plug in to the harnesses. I didnt really think of getting rid of the cats, wouldnt that leave me with even less backpressure? How would the sound change if i took cats off and just ran dumps at the manifolds? that seems pretty trashy to me though... well at least trashier than keeping cats.

I have always heard that if your exhaust exits too closely to the head that you could run the risk of cool outside air backing up in the exhaust and run the risk of burning a valve. I wouldn't do it, I would wait save 60 and get a cutout or just wait and just get the LTs you want and the right exhaust

You have more of a chance of killing an O2 sensor from the proximity of a cutout to where the sensors are. Wait till you do longtubes, that way you have some spare sensors when you delete the rears.

You can burn a valve that way. I wouldn't run the car without ATLEAST the cats. i'd just wait till you get long tubes

Just wait for lts or get a cutout on the I pipe. If money is an issue pick up a cheapo manual cutout. I would not run dumps off the manifolds or cats.

if i heard that car coming down the street i'd immediatly in my head have that redneck dualling banjo song going full blast as i heard that thing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wfdg...eature=related) if you dont have the money for it, just save it, it's not worth the trashy sound

You won't burn a valve but from what I read you may ruin your o2's. With the cutout you are talkin about just venting the exhaust off after the cats. It's still an open exhaust.. WTF'in difference You will be fine untill you get it how you want it!!

haha well i might have answered my own question pretty quick. ses light came on tonight coming from work and its an o2 sensor. the guy said both banks 1 and 2 are bad, and he thinks it is saying the fronts. but how would the fronts be affected? I figured the rears would go and I was prepared for that. I guess the y pipe is going back on tommorow. I dont think it sounds too bad out of the cats but I guess I should have just waited. thanks for the help
