Default Hooker/Magnaflow on stock?

Hey everyone,

I've seen tons of posts where people review their exhaust with headers and ORY's, but I don't think I've seen to many reviews with stock everything. My question is which is better with stock...Magnaflow or Hooker? Is one louder than the other? I don't really care about price all I want to know is which is better as far as noticing a difference from stock exhaust. Thanks!

From my experience the Magnaflow is louder/raspier on a stock setup. When I first purchased my Hooker exhaust, my SS only had a lid and no other mods. At idle it sounded stock but while cruising it had a nice rumble to it. Wide open it very throaty and aggressive sounding, more so then stock.

Magnaflow should be a little louder. I prefer the Magnaflow tone, so that's obviously the catback I went with.

I test drove a car with a Hooker catback and stock manifolds. I barely noticed it was there! It was too quiet for me. But then again, Magnaflow with stock manifolds would probably be too quiet for me too. Neither one is a very loud exhaust.

If you haven't already, check out www.ls1sounds.com

Magnaflow also has the added benefit of being one of the more free-flowing catbacks. Every hp counts.

Performance is going to be about the same, but the Magnaflow is a little louder primarily due to the "cannon" tips it comes with.

The hooker will be near stock quiet and the magnaflow just slightly louder.

Magnaflow is a straight thru design and sounds better.

Thats preference, a few friends have the Magnaflow and still prefer the sound of my car over theirs.... The hooker isn't as raspy. Also the hooker flows very well...i only gained 2hp by opening the cutout at my power level. the only thing the magnaflow has better is stainless steel construction.

the hooker and magnaflow are both good catbacks for sure. i think the hooker just have a slight more deeper rumble than magnaflow. magnaflow is more fine and crips i think. without headers the magnaflow is quiet. pretty much stock sounding. when i added longtube headers and off road y pipe, it woke up big time. the magnaflow definitely got louder, but not obnoxious loud like loudmouth. good sounding catback. i wish the magnaflow was just a tad bit louder.
