how would I get more spark?
Has anyone ever looked into upgrading the factory LS1 ignition in any way to get more energy (besides wires and plugs).
As of yet I have not "seen" anything to replace or even just boost the power output of the factory coils.
Why is this......are the factory coils already good enough that nobody has found a reason for upgrading?
I'm just shooting the question out for conversation/info....my car runs fine but I just wondered why I never see anything for ignition systems.

Holley makes a aftermarket coils... but they require a whole new electronics setup.

Yeah, you already have 1 coil per cylinder, which
means that you're pretty well off, spark-serving-
wise. Never have to worry about whether you have
enough time to rebuild the field between sparks.
Only reason you need to upgrade these coils is
if you can't punch through the gap under max
cylinder pressure conditions. And here, still,
the best answer is just to drop the gap to some
lesser distance; even 0.035 is plenty to fire
with, just more gap is more kernel energy is
slightly better.
Besides, now that iggy coil switches are buried
in (wherever?) times eight, you really don't
want to hang some too-tough primary windings
on them, pop and buy new ones. Not like a $15 HEI
module or a $5 set of points, I'm pretty sure.
But colored plug wires are purty and will give
ya a tenth or less in the 1/4, guar-on-teed.

Yes. I used 'em when I was running 9s and I'll be using them as I shoot for 8s.

The stock ignition is about the best you can get. I saw a dyno chart that displayed a run with the stock ignition and another run after a complete msd ignition was installed. There was a small gain of 2 or 3 hp.
