I did a set of mac mids about a month ago. That sucked. the biggest problem was the passenger side header, that thing would not go in. Ended up droping the starter, loosened the motor mount and jacked the engine up. finally got the BFH out and i got it in there, just hit the ball flange by accident and now i have a small leak. Oh well, guess next time i will know a few things for the next set!

i installed the headers yesterday (pacesetters LT) the pass side went right in, didn't have to remove anything, the drivers side i had to grind down the casting tab you guys are talking about then it went in, all i like is putting on the ORY and double checking anything, this is my first time putting headers on a f-body and i was working by myself so it took a minute but i got them in, they fit good also. only time consuming thing was getting the old stuff off!

Finally, I bought a dremel and grinded down the K-member where the driver side header was rubbing. It was difficult because the headers were on, but I got it done. I recommend grinding that K-member before you get the headers bolted up if it appears they may rub.

Took it for a spin and no more annoying rattle!

If you get a basic mail order tune for your mods you'll pick up even more power with the header swap. I've seen cars gain another 10 rwhp with a "bolt on" tune in addition to the headers.

There are two "nuckles" to unbolt to remove the steering linkage. Top bolt is simple. For the bottom, go under the car to get to it. This requires removing the cardboard-like shroud (no big deal) and then you can get to the bottom bolt no problem.

The hard part wasn't removing the steering linkage, it was getting it on. Sliding it back over the bottom spine can be difficult. I think you can use automotive grease, but we didn't have any. Finally my friend just grabbed it and bear handled it over the spine.

My friends and I have HP tuners. We scanned it and its only slightly rich at WOT. To really properly tune for WOT you need a wide band O2 sensor. I would be hesitant to use a mail order tune without knowing exactly what was changed. We are just going to mess with shift points and shift timing, fans etc. Probably not going to mess with AFR.

How are you holding the headers up to put the bolts in? Extra jack stands?

i used my jack with a block of wood on top to hold the headers up. i will admit, i did have my dad put one header bolt in when i put them in and i held it up under the car-just so it wasnt a total pain trying to get the gaskets lined up. but thats all the work he would give me haha. i just have to finish tightening up all the bolts and put the plug wires (and driver side plugs) in. the headers i got have the emissions(not using it) and it makes it damn near impossible to get to the plugs and bolts, sucks.

You will kill a lot of time if you grind it. Just use a sawzall (borrow one if you do not have one). the tab is on the driver's side about 1/2"x1/2" just above the oil filter. Sawed mine off in less than one minute
