i just got done with my H\C\I forged 383 LS6, and was running on the ls1 pcv system, and on the dyno, the hose was actually smoking because of all the air pressure in the motor, my tuner said its very common with higher horse apps. i didnt even think about upgrading it when i did the rest of the motor, but i ordered the ls6 valley plate and hose setup, along with a catch can just the other day. i talked to a few guys, that said if the stock ls1 pcv system cant handle it, it could have damaged the rings on my new motor, so i am gonna wait until i get the ls6 setup on it to drive it just to be safe, compression looks fine though. but i have one question, why on some peoples catch can application do they have more than one hose going to the catch can. i thought you just had to vent it from the valley plate to the catch can, and put a breather on the catch can. am i correct on that?

You need to pull the vapors out at idle & low RPM's, so a metered vacum source is a must. On a stroker or a FI application you need a breather in the valve cover to prevent to much crankcase pressure. Also, the purpose of the catch can is to remove the harmful vapors from the crankcase & to condense those vapors to liquid....this requires a cooler surface so a metal can works by far the best & it needs some sort of baffeling or diversion to help as much of the vapor pulled through to contact the surface area to aid condensation.

Just out of curiousity, if you have a catch can, would this prevent black smoke from coming out of your tailpips at WOT?

Also, if I went with your setup, how would I empty the oil collected from the cans filtration, is there a draincock of somesorts at the bottom? Or do you have to remove the unit to do so??

It has a drain valve on the bottom & when mounted has enough room to easily reach it. It is 1 Qt capacity so draining is only a few times a year, depending on the amount of blow-by the engine has.

On the smoke, if its black smoke sounds like your rich, oil is usually more blue than black, but yes it will reduce or eliminate the oil into the intake.

Why after the can and not before? Seems the can will just collect more oil. Fwiw I've used mine for years before the can with great results.

Either way will work, but in the event of a backfire the PCV will keep the backflow from pressuring the can. But it will work both ways.

These are good quality nice looking catch cans, I have one on my Red Vortech blown Formula and one on my Silver daily driver Formula. Definately a good idea to keep oil out of your intake.

I believe Tracey explained the different hook up for an LS1 style intake and the LS6/ LS2 style on the 1st page of this thread.

Agreed. I'm wondering about the mount location.

Just put one of these on my car today, well lets say it was the easiest mod yet, should stop my oil consumption, and man it cleans the engine bay up!!!

I'm very happy with my unit I bought from Tracy.
It brings a nice racer's touch to the engine bay!
