i don't see why they couldnt get the bracket on there. I think you should try again for that to fit..Must not have known what to do. I think the motor mounts would be the last ditch effort in this case

Hey Summer I was having the same problems just as many have with the Y banging so much under the drivers side it was disgusting.

I took advice from people in this thread and got some heater hose, I cut a small piece and stuck it between the y and the drivers side floorboard and that ***** not going anywhere. Nobody can see it unless they crawl under and look at it.
Now I cant make it bang at all its extremely quiet and enjoyable once again.
I know its not the proper way to fix it but ahh who cares.

I tried the hose wedged under there but didn't like that it still pushed up against the car. My solution (which worked great) was to loosen all connections along the headers/ypipe/catback and then buy a bunch of wooden shims. Next hammer the shims between the car and the pipe where it's hitting...you can stuff a bunch under there to get it to about an inch or more of clearance. While the shims are in there go back and tighten down all connections using a LOT of torque. Next pull all the shims out and you should be good to go. If that doesn't work then just put a driver's side poly mount in (you don't need the passenger's side).

I used a 1/2 rubber hose from a trans cooler. I wraped it around a couple places on the whole exhaust system. Then I slid a tie strap through the hose and locked it in. I had to use a tie wrap because believe it or not when torque is comming off that engine it makes your pipes jump around quite a bit and it would make a hose just fall off if it wasnt wraped around and tied. Worked great.

By doing just the driver's side with a poly mount it really wont shake that much more. You don't need to do the passenger's side (left my stock rubber one in) since the banging occurs under load causing the motor to want to move up towards the passenger's side so the driver's mount counteracts that force. I daily drove mine with no complaints and that was with a big cam which doesn't really help the shakes either.

rubber melts...duh
prybar only fixes it for about a week or so then problem returns...I used a huge 4-5ft. snapon pry bar
Mufflex "bump-stop hanger" is poorly fitted to work where it's supposed to but works for the most part so far as long as the rubber holds up.
next try for me: poly mounts

I speak from experience! lol just save time and try the poly mounts first. That seems to be what everyone says fixes it and we all try to get away with not doing it then regretting that we didn't try it first! lol

x2. When the exhaust shop welded the Y to my headers it was really really close. So the guy pulls out this like 5 foot pry bar and bends it down a little, now its bout an inch or more away. No vibration.

Oh no the horror of putting a piece of rubber between a small portion of the y and the chassis...Oh man what if this causes the engine to fall out while driving down the freeway and in turn causes a 50 car pile up. Seriously man with something this small its not that big of a deal at all.

Below is a picture of where the heater hose is placed. To answer the question about it melting. Its been there for quite awhile and it is only leaving a smudge on the y which I dont care really because no one will ever see it anyways.

Red99TA your solution sounds great man I am just buying some time until I get around to replacing the motor mounts and trans mount.

Back in 01' a guy welded a valve spring between the y pipe and the undercarriage; solved the problem. I chose the motor mounts (poly) in 02' so mine doesn't bang anymore. But I thought the valve spring idea was pretty ingenious.

Nice pic of tubing. My bangin' is farther forward at the end of the the drubing iver side header. Rattles like a sumbitch under acceleration and vibes like crazy at idle. Not driving me crazy - yet. I will try the tubing first, then motor mounts. I am not liking the idea of heating and prying on the header right at my o2 sensor location.
also,
anyone know who sells a k member that fits LTs? I did a search and pulled up members that mount under the front of the motor at the A arm. I need the brace that crossed the Y mid chassis. Right where the y joins the pipe running back to the muffler. I thought this was the k location, not up front. What is that called? And other than having a shop weld up one, what are my options?

Try to pry it down a little and shove some sort of rubber or heater hose around the pipe. You should probably just do the poly mounts. I have them and my cammed engine barely moves.

Was reading all the different methods and had to chime in when I saw this one. I have 2 valve springs welded between the pipe and floorboard and mine's never made a peep.
