Default Y pipe is driving me CRAZY!!!!

ok so i got my headers installed last week and i was SUPER excited (still am) and i knew that the pacesetter y pipe is notorious for hitting the floorboard so i went ahead and bought that bump stop hanger from thunderracing for it and when i brought it to the muffler shop to get it put on they said they couldnt fit the hanger on it bc everything was just to tight and there was nothing they could do... now my y pipe is freakin pounding against my floorboard everytime i press the gas... its driving me mad and not letting me enjoy it as much as what i should right now.. is there any other alternative? like could i wrap it with header wrap or something?

please help

thanks!

Try wrapping some heater hose around the y-pipe. I know it's not the ideal way of getting it to stop but it should do the trick if you can get it between the y-pipe and the floor. I didn't have that issue with mine, I guess I was lucky.

My buddy had the same problem on his Z. If I remember correctly he ended up stuffing a piece of rubber between the pipe and the floorboard. Problem solved

Spend some time tweeking the pipes. If that doesn't do it, consider installing poly motor mounts.

that bumpstop doesn't have to be right where it's hitting the floorboard. Mine was really tight also but I installed it right by the tunnel brace after the split in the Y. I flattened out the bracket and drilled a hole to bolt it to the tunnel brace bolt. After you get that and the clamp on the pipe, put the rubber in there and turn that clamp on the pipe while pulling the pipe down to pull it away from the floorboard. After I it tightened down I had no more problems except extreme situations. It's very simple and if you have a couple wrenches or even an adjustable wrench and a drill you can do it yourself. If that spot doesn't work just look around yourself to find a spot to install it

I tried the rubber between the pipe and board and it worked ok but I could feel the rattle more then I could hear it, over a month or so the rubber melted so make sure it's rated for extreme heat like a heater hose.

I had just the driverside motor mount and my Pacesetter LT and y-pipe never hit the floorboard.

if the bump stop is too large, grind it down some and "make" it fit. Thats what i had to do with my pacesetter Y pipe.

that bump stop can be welded anywhere along the y pipe and will work the same. make sure you check your k-member....that may be where it's hitting and you can just grind a little off.

Have an exhaust shop cut it and redo it to give you a lil more clearance.

My Magnaflow cat back did the same,I have Doubble Diamond subframe commectors. Rattled like hell.

My exhaust guy heated up the Y pipe with welding torch, nice and hot, stuck a crowbar inside the Y pipe and PULLED down, then reinstalled the cat back!!!

problem solved.

Just stuff the space between the y pipe and floor board(usually just drivers side) with a bunch of sanding wool..or if you can get self adhesive stove gasket material that also works....

I have the same issue w/ my SLP Y-Pipe, i didn't know about the bump stop so i just warpped mine in header wrap. it dampens the noise, but not 100%. it is a lot better tho.
