What can kill ignition coils?
I've had three coils go out since I did the Jay Fisher coil relocation. What kills coils? If two coils are touching each other, could that ruin one or both or them? Heat? Anything like that? Thanks a lot!

Is it the same coil failing each time or different ones? On the same side (cylinders)or both?Sounds like you have a short some where probably caused by heat breaking down the insulation on your wires. "Short,"-no pun intended, of having your wires checked with an insulation tester -aka Megger, buy a new set or /swap your wires and see if you blow different coils. Buy new wires /check plugs.

Re: What can kill ignition coils?
They have all been on the same side, I've lost 2, 4, and 6. The wires are heavy duty, but I'll check and see if they are really close to any heat. I can't afford new wires from Jay Fisher right now, these things were like $160 or something outrageous like that.
BTW, 30thWS6, Jay Fisher is a Pontiac dealer who sells some custom parts for our cars. They are well thought of, this isn't some mod I heard from the guy down the road. You relocate the coils from the top of the valve cover up to the cowl. This cleans up the engine, much easier to work on the car, etc.

Too much plug gap, or a super high cylinder
pressure for whatever gap you run, will ultimately
leave the coil's developed voltage nothing to do
if the arc won't strike except punch through its
own insulation. Then it's domino time.
If you're consistently frying your secondaries
this is the most likely problem.

sounds like you have a secondary ignition problem too much gap??? the coils not sealing to the wires well (crossfire)? they aren't touching are they?you don't want them to touch, that's what the spacers are for.
