Default Best way to fix exhaust leak?

What is the best way to fix an exhaust leak at home? It is leaking at a weld and I need to fix it until I can get it up to a muffler shop.

or.. if it's a small hole, use a hose clamp and a piece of sheetmetal. Seen this done at the track with a bottle cap
