Default What is rasp? Video Or Sound Clips?

Anyone care to explain to me what rasp is? I have a borla catback on my 02 Z28, and am going to be putting a Y-pipe/no cats with LTs. People are telling me its going to sound like **** and rasp. What is this rasp everyone is talking about? I did a search but only found small fragments of convos.

rasp is a ratty sound, like most chevy trucks with glasspacks. Its blatty, harsh, and pretty much just unappealing. Go to LS1sounds.com and listen to the SLP LoudMouth 1 or 2 with headers, that is rasp!

Couldn't have said it better. Friend of mine had a 96 silverado with glass packs. I personally like the sound of borla, it's a little raspy, but it sounds kind of weird in a way that I like.

This video you can hear the rasp really well. When the guy first accelerates away at part throttle the loud high pitched raspy sound. I don't know whos car this is though but it does sound sick at idle with the blower.

Yep, I have teh rasp now that I just got my LT+ORY on the LM1 but its only like 2300-2500rpm then its gone. I'm going to be making a borlamouth or something out of it this week to get rid of that.

The smallest open plate will provide the least amount of rasp. besides fully closed which is to quiet. I was on the fence with my Borla system until the cam went in, now I love the sound. The cam gave it a deeper tone, and it just sounds mean.

Did the BorlaMouth on mine. +1 on it. Skip the LM 2. I went to it first and wasn't much better than the LM1.

X2 on the Borlamouth. Still loud as fock but it is a more refined sound. I always say its like comparing a Farm truck to a Cup car. The borlamouth has a deeper throatier sound to it. It has a little rasp but it actually sounds good. I changed from a Dynomouth and it was worlds better.
