Is there any way to test a MAF off the car?
Probably not dead simple, but if you can read frequency
(as some of the better DMMs will) then give it +12V and
ground and a pullup to 5V on the output pin and you
should see a kHz or two which moves some if you blow
on it.

If it's dead you'll get the SES light. Engine will actually continue to run OK as the PCM will revert to the MAP sensor to stay running.
Best way to test it I can think of would be to use a scanner with a live scan feature.
