FireChicken has got a limp...
Hey all,
I've gotta 98' WS6 and I have a question about my cooling system.
Sometimes, when I am idling at a red light or at a drive thru (like tonight) the low coolant level light will come on and the coolant temp gauge will rise to around 200. My coolant level is good though and I've found that if I turn on my heater/AC when this happens, the temp will go down. The light goes off when I shut down the car.
Could there be a restriction in the coolant system causing this?
Or can this be a thermostat issue?
Or even the coolant sensor (passenger side/radiator) which was replaced about a year ago?
Please advise.

Unless you have the cooling fans tuned to turn on at a lower temp, 200 degrees is perfectly normal for idling at a stop or low speed. With the stock tune, even up to 220 degrees is considered normal.
As for the low coolant light, the cause is the sensor. Its common for them to read wrong, try cleaning the sensor (located in the top of the radiator, near the cap) or just unplug it completely.
