Default Advantages of stepped headers

When completed, the car will have a lid, ls6 intake, 02 ls6 cam, catback, 4.10s, and other small mods.

To be specific, I'm looking at some Kooks headers.

Camaro LS1 (1998-1999)(Camaro)
1 3/4" x 3" - w/ Weld On Collector per Pair
or
Camaro LS1 (1999-1999)(Camaro)
1 3/4" x 1 7/8" x 3" - w/ Slip On Collector per Pair

Besides the $125 difference, what advantages will the stepped headers (1 3/4 to 1 7/8) have over the 1 3/4 headers on my car described above? I know that stepped headers offer great gains on larger displacement engines and h/c engines. If it's only a couple horsies, I won't bother, but if I can see maybe 10 from it, I could justify it.

Default Re: Advantages of stepped headers

IMO, on a motor that stock, you will probably loose too much torque to justify the gains (if any). That being said, if your future plans call for a big inch motor or heads and a cam, maybe its better to do it once. Something else to keep in mind, a slip on collector is going to leak, not real daily-driver-friendly, IMO.
