160* or 180* stat?

160* or 180* stat? Which is better for our cars? I read somewhere that a 160* stat requires tweeking of some sort to get the fans to come on at the right temp. Is that true? Also, is a lower temp stat really worth the money on these cars? Which is better 160 or 180? thanks guys.

I've got a 160 SLP stat that actually operates in the 170-175 range, so I'd say the SLP one isn't worth it considering your stock one is most likely a 180 (I know 01-02 LS1's are, I don't know about the earlier ones). I've got a manual fan control switch that I only use if I'm at the track or sitting at idle for awhile. If you're driving down the road you don't need the fans to come on sooner. 
Re: 160* or 180* stat? There really is no point in spending the money on a thermostat for the cars. You can get the fans to turn on at whatever temperature you like - with or without a tstat. If you do want a stat, check out www.installuniversity.com for a way to do it for free. Still, find a place with LS1 edit and pay them $30 or so to turn your fans on when you like.
