Default Clueless

I turned my car off and it won't crank. I tried to crank it and when I turn over the ingnition, all my gauges drop, except my battery volts. My old battery was struggling on cold start ups, it would reset all my gauges and clock. So I bought a new battery when it wouldnt start and it did nothing.

When I turn the ignition over, it does nothing....no clicks, no starter noise, nothing. I'm clueless, my car is sitting in a parking lot and I want to get it home soon.
What do y'all think it is? Starter, solenoid, relay, ignition, security system, etc.??
Thanks guys

first off is the security light flashing on the dash or staying on. if it is your vats key is bad. Im willing to bet either your key has gone bad or your ignition relay is bad. Had both happen on my car. Try swapping Ignition relay in engine bay with the one next to it for the ac and see if that works.

that happened to me at the track one day. I cut it off and when i tried to crank it it wouldnt do anything. It was a fuse under the hood that had backed out a little. I pressed it back down and it fired right up. good luck

Well my starter and solenoid are good. I'm pretty sure all the fuses are fine, I guess it's the key?? I'll have to wait till tomorrow to get a new key made

I just went back to double check my fuses, they're all good and tight. So new key it is, I guess.

Did you check the relay in the underhood fuse panel. And you didnt tell us if SECURITY light was flashing or staying on when you tried it with the other key.

I don't have another key, the the security light's not flashing. My alarm goes off when I unlock it (don't have keyless entry), I disconected the battery to turn it off...when I reconnect the battery, my headlights go up and down.

I have this problem every now and then. I'm about 99% positive its my vats system. Try leaving the key in the ignition for about 5 mins and then try it. That usually works for me. Although the last time it did it, it didnt work and i had to push start it.

Mine is an a4, I wish I could push start it. I had the GM dealership test my key this morning, and it's fine. Wouldn't that have exclude VATS? Maybe?
I want to add that I haven't had my keyless entry for about 2 years...so if I don't get my car started within about 4 seconds my alarm goes off. I don't know if that would have anything to do with it, just throwing it out there.

There may be a possibility that it is the cylinder in the steering column. Your may still be good, as I said before mine works when it wants to. I bet my key will check out good also. Have you tried swaping the ignition relay? Do a search for vats, there are some write ups on how to bypass it. I would try that and see if works. I would also try and get a new remote, it might just come in handy.
