Uhhh...best for....?

Sound?
Power?
Clearance?

There's no such thing as "best," this is just going to start a flame war.

H pipe sound is personal preference. I know a guy that had an H pipe with single chambers and it sounded like a dump truck. X flows the best, Y has the best clearance.

I've also heard H-pipes that sound like ****. It is all personal preference.

This topic has been beaten up many times. It all turns into a heated debate that ends up being useless since no one has actual facts to back anything up. Just wait. This thread will end up exactly like the rest.

Yeah X pipe has shown it flows better than an H but its like 1hp at best. Get what you want. That's what it comes down too.

in general:

x for higher end power
H for low/mid power, sound
y for good ground clearance and ease of install

any can be made to do what you want, none are cheap if done correctly

That's not true. There's virtually no difference in flow between an H-pipe and an X-pipe. Flow is not what makes power in this case. You only need just enough flow to not be a restriction. Adding more flow will NOT add power. In fact, too much flow will hurt power.

X-pipes scavenge better than H-pipes. You will see significant gains with a well-made X-pipe over a well-made H-pipe on the top end. It will be more than 1 horsepower. However, you'll lose low end torque with an X-pipe. H-pipes push the horsepower curve lower, so you'll make more power lower in the RPM range.

x=sounds more like exotic ferrari type car, higher pitched, semi raspier

h=more musclecar type sound, deeper, throaty

thats sort of over generalized, buit you can get an idea, just go to ls1 sounds for the difference in sound
