Default Ported TB

So I recently purchased a PnP throttle body with everything but the bump stop mod done to it off ebay. I got it today in the mail and you can see light through the top part of the throttle plate.... that's going to make me idle high isn't it? that and the screws that hold the plate to the shaft weren't cut down, so they are stickin out the other side? any ideas on what i should do? return?

I know on my factory one with the blade closed I could see the smallest amount of light on the top and the bottom and had no problems. It takes 10 minutes to swap out.....try it and see what happens you wont hurt anything....Pics might help us help you.....

Is the blade knife edged and too much taken off so the blade is not perfectly round? Or did they port too far past where the throttle blade is closed? If they did either one of those that would bad. Hence....pics would help

it was "knife bladed" but not very much, i'm going to try an idle relearn and see if that fixes it, i only started it up once and drove it and came here to talk about it if it doesn't fix it, it's coming off and the pics will be added to see if it's the TB or something else

alot of times I have found depending on the car you do have to adjust the low speed idle screw. But I do agree he removed material around the area where the blade meets the body, or he screwed up when he tried to knife edge it. Return if he will let you for another.

yea i have been talking with him tonight and he agree's that's way too much of a gap in there and will be sending another one out once he receives this one, so hopefully the next one performs a little better

look on the throttle cam on the side where the cable attaches. there's a tab on it and when fully open (WOT) that tab hits where you grind for the bump stop mod, the fully closed area is where the idle screw is, mine have one thread showing for adjustment out. it's kinda tough to see since it's so small and threaded underneath

my idle changed slightly; it wasn't much. It settles at 750-800rpm; it drops revs like normal and there is DEF a power increase. the guy that did mine did an amazing job. That is why i didn't do it myself; i didn't want to chance ******* it up.

Your idle will probably go up slightly; you're letting more air in. Even if it seals like it should; you're porting the hole to make it bigger and to allow more air to flow through, so more air gets past the opening when it is in the idle postion. Like i said; mine hovers between 750-800, i don't remember the stock idle rpm. A 150rpm jump seems a little high (unless you have a cam).

i have seen stockers that show light through there, not much, but hair line,,,sometimes its hard to see due to line of sight, and the rigde that sits in front of the blade,,,can be deceiving...look at the knife edged sections,,,there should still be a tiny flat spot there from the original edge left on there, before it was knife edged. If they have knife edged that tiny flat spot away, so that the blade actully comes to a sharp edge,,,then they have taken to much material off the blade (it could actually chip)
if that looks good, then look at the cavity inside the TB where the blade would sit when closed,,,is there sanding or tooling marks in that area? Then that could be the cause, and sounds like it is in this case (too much material off of the walls inside the TB)
I cant open those pics to check it out.
Good luck

yea, he admitted to it being over ported when the throttle blade is closed. you can see a complete ring of light when held up to the light. it's all worked out now, i just sent it back and he's sending me another one. the car idled at 1000-1200 rpm with the ported one installed, then would surge when the pcm was tryin to relearn idle. so i gave it a pcm relearn with disconnecting the battery and pulling the fuse, then leting it idle for 5 min and in Drive for 5 min... still bad. reinstalled my stock one... perfect. so i'm hoping the next one i get is ready to roll
