Default Water temp/tranny temp reading location

9 out of 10 times I look I see that the best place for the sending unit to be mounted is on the passenger side cylinder head but I read on someones writeup they simply made a T that spliced where the TB bypass mod goes.

Is that T fitting a bad idea or is mounting it on the head just that much better or a location?

Also with the tranny temp, he spliced a T into the cooler lines. That seems a hell of a lot easier than taking off that existing fitting on the tranny and then re-tapping it. Thoughts and opinions? I will be installing these pretty quick here and would like to see what you guys think the differences are.

Obviously I have searched and thats how I know of both methods but I have yet to see why these simpler ways arent that popular....there might be a reason but there might not be.

The simple methods can be found in this writeup

Ive never heard of doing it that way before...but I dont see why it would be a big problem. I did my water temp in the passenger head when doing a head swap...but its a pain if you dont have the heads off...maybe I wil do it this way on my current car..

my oil temp gauge was connected to the fitting above the oil filter. Vettes use the fitting, but on fbody's you have to drill it out and tap it...i only tapped it and screwed in the sensor since I figured if its not reading the oil temp 100% accurate, its like 95% accurate since there was only like 1/8'' of aluminum in the way... I think using the t fittings will be fine
