1. shorties or if your on a budget, get 00+ manifolds
2. 2 high flow cats and put them in the same place as your stock cats
3. SLP Y-pipe, that doesnt have the flat peice on the drivers side
4. if your really worried, get a flowmaster merge and do the mod on the new pipe. but the stock merge is more than sufficient for stock manifolds and a cat back.
i appreciate the imput. i am just trying to find a cost effective way to gain power.

Depends on what your definition of 'worthwhile' is. By replacing the stock Y merge, you'll see a couple pr three of horsepower from better flow. IMHO, I'd save up until I could do a new exhaust and make big gains.

Take your y pipe to a muffler shop and have the section that necks down to 2-5/8 expanded to a 3" I.D. so it will slide over the catback. No cutting or welding.

go ahead and do it but everyone is forgetting the main restriction... stock manifolds have collectors with an id the size of a silver dollar on them.

Go cheap and do the late model stock manifolds, which are really easy to swap out. You can re-use the stock metal gaskets. You'll get a much better gain than doing anything with the Y-merge.

Everyone's right about the cats ... replace them. Since you have to be C.A.R.B. legal, take your time and look for some hi-flo cats in some junkyards, thrifty nickel, penny Saver, Craigslist, etc ... if you're on a tight budget.

Good luck ... the smartest thing to do is to be patient and save a few $$$ each week from your paycheck until you have enough money to do what you want. I had JBA' ceramic coated headers as my first set and they hardly flowed any better than the 00-02 manifolds flowed. They looked really nice under the hood, but, the money spent wasn't worth it.

I will look for some of those but i think they will make me emissions illegal aslo i know someone who failed because of that. I am so fed up with california and their bs rules. I might just go with some lt's and just swap them out when i have to.
