Default motor mount problems

Having some trouble getting the passenger side motor mount bolt out for my rod bolt install due to the AC compressor(?) being right in the damn way. getting a punch on the end of the bolt and punching it out isn't happening. Am I better off unbolting the compressor or what? How'd you guys go about it?

I never unbolted my compressor or alternator, just slightly jack up the motor to take the weight off the mounts. Remove the two starter bolts, and swing the starter out of your way. Remove all the mount and pedestal bolts. Then you can angle both together a little and remove the long bolt. Then when you go to reinstall the bolt put it in from the back with the nut towards the compress and alternator. Was a piece of cake for me.

FYI... I had no manifolds/headers on when I did mine. If you do, you might have to remove the compressor then. No experience here with the exhaust in sorry.

Ah yes, the headers are in the car. I had the pan off last year but was an idiot and didn't do the rod bolts when I was there.

I'm using a hoist and I've got the weight of the engine supported, but there's still enough tension on the bolt to not let me pull it out by hand. It looks like theres 4 bolts holding that compressor on (maybe someone can verify this for me). If that's all there is to it I guess I'll just pull it and let it hang there and then getting that bolt out won't be any problem. I just don't want to take a wrong bolt off and have freon spraying all over the garage . I've never dealt with AC stuff before.

I did my mounts without exhaust, too, but I still unbolted the compressor and pushed it forward a little.

I remember there being more than four bolts, though.....maybe six? IIRC there's like 3-4 on top and two on bottom.

Then you can push it forward a little and rest it on the swaybar. No need to unbolt any of the lines/discharge the system.

If I remember correctly, the compressor has 4 bolts. There may be a mounting bracket that has an additional 2 bolts. I am too lazy to look it up in my shop manual.

Funny story: I removed my compressor when changing motor mounts. When I was bolting the darn thing back up, the housing cracked. I still do not know why. That was costly. Yay, good times.

Screw that, if that happens to me then my car's gonna get the ol' !AC I'm already debating on going that route.

Yeah, it was the bracket that had the extra bolts. My bad.

That was easy. Just got the compressor off. That top/front bolt is sandwiched in there under the coolant lines pretty damn good though . Thanks for the helps guys.

I had the !A/C so it just slipped in and out easily. I'd say your best bet is to take it off. It would save you alot of hassle.

3mins taking off compressor > 30 mins of fiddling with the bolt.

I just unbolted the mount and twisted it enough to push the bolt out. I had the engine jacked up and the exhaust out. With the exhaust out everything is easy haha.

Tell me about it. That's why I get so worked up when I see "My Y pipes banging" threads started by people who didn't do the damn poly mounts while the headers were off the car. It's seriously less than a 1hr job, including a beer break. But yeah, unbolting those bolts worked great and now I have clear access to that mount bolt
