Off road y-pipe worth buying?
A buddy of mine is parting out his car, and has a bassani y-pipe for stock manifolds he said I could have for $100. Is it worth getting and putting on? How much would this hold me back versus a set of Mac Mids?
Mods that are either done or planned very soon
Lid/filter
Ported TB
LS6 manifold
SLP underdrive pulley
TR 224 cam
bassani off road y
SLP 2OTL catback
Would like that combo to make around 380WHP.
Just curious as I've never researched just a y-pipe before.

i would save up 500$ get some L/T and ory like i did, and do it like that mids are pretty much worthless if you decide to put in a cam like that, and if your trying to reach 380hp.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. Why not just get longtubes? I can't see you reaching your hp goal with that cam through stock manifolds. People do however make pretty decent power through those Mac mids.

because headers banging leaking and generally sounding like **** are some of the reasons I dislike them. If i do do any it will be the macs. I swear by them, have had several sets on LS1's and they have always performed with in 10% of LT's, with a lot less of the headaches. Plus my car is lowered.

My car made 355 at the wheels (Mustang Dyno) with intake, bolt ons and headers. You won't approach 380whp without headers. If you get good headers and they are installed properly, you won't have leaks or banging. There are no leaks or banging going on with my car.

DON'T BOTHER
i had the bassani offroad pipe and it was worthless other than sound. i felt no gains from it and i also installed a catback with it.
however i DID have TONS of issues with the ypipe banging the frame. we had it 1/2" from the frame and it would still hit.
ended up putting in poly motor mounts to cure it.
ditched the whole thing and went LTs.....but mids will do you just fine

I had the ory hooked to the stock manifolds for about 4 months, all it did was give it better sound not much for power. Then I found a good deal on a set of used Mac mids and ory that has the collector mod (remove ball flanges) and a flowmaster merge. As long as you do those mods they wont be far off from long tubes maybe 5hp at the most. But if you want to hit that goal, your going to have to go with long tubes or modify the Macs.

Ok well I was just wondering, I will stick with my original plan and tell him I pass on it. Thats just thing with headers sometimes they work perfect, sometimes you fight them for months before getting them to work right, Hope I get the first one this time around.

I have had bassani ORY on since 03, no issues and dynoed 342rwhp/350tq, before ported TB. But if you are getting bigger cam soon, you will need headers. When I dynoed a buddy had same mods as me + LT and dynoed about 10 more rwhp. LT much cheaper now, I plan on doing cam w/ headers after I get new ZO6 clutch. First want to run some low 12's before cam/headers.
