Installing A Catch Can When you guys are installing your catch can, which hole are you mounting it on, on the passanger side head? The one on the left side towards the A/C canister? Or the one on the far right towards the intake?

For oil? I installed a ls6 valley cover & hooked my hose to it, mounted the can on the passenger side fender then the other hose to the intake.
If you are going to use the valve cover I would use the passenger side. You will have to put a filter on the driver side for air flow.

As many of you know, the PCV system on the 98-02 LS1's isnt exactly the greatest system on the planet.....burning up to 1 quart every 3K miles. How do you prevent the oil from entering your intake? Simple....install a catch can. Why do I need to prevent oil from entering my intake? When oil vapors exit the crankcase via the PCV valve, they enter the intake and create adverse effects such as carbon build-up on valves, pistons, and plugs, as well as cause harmful detonation. Detonation in many cases causes the ECM/PCM to retard timing, thus creating a reduction in horsepower. By removing this oil, a clean burning engine could help the environment as well as improving the performance of a vehicle.
A PCV catch can installs between your PCV valve and your intake manifold. It acts as an oil/air seperator. All of the oil mist that enters the can is trapped, and the air flows through the can, much like an A/C accumulator. You will be amazed to see how much oil catch cans can accumulate every few thousand miles.

Excellent summary!
I've had mine (revextreme) on for a couple hundered miles + several dyno pulls and a trip the the track ... 0 oil (checked it yesterday). I am kinda curious though .. I mean; how did all that oil get in my intake if it weren't going this route? I'm still getting a good deal of white smoke out of the exhaust @ WOT so .. I'm still a little lost as to where it might be coming from. It's a new engine build and gapped for a 150 shot, would that be a good cause for that much oil burn?

Is a catch can and LS1 PCV setup good enough for 7200 rpm? Or do I need the LS6 valley cover and catch can? I'm taking in a ton of oil right now with the stock PCV system!

I would upgrade to the LS6 valley b/c, well, it is just better
then put a catch can on. can't go wrong 
i first installed my catch can and had no oil in the can for months so i tested it by squirting oil in the inlet while the car is started and sure enough that oil went right through the can and into the intake. now i set mine up with the vertical pcv mod along with a mini husky catch can and after that 2 fuel filters inline. now i catch a bunch of oil in the big can and i catch alot in the mini catch can. and the filters get oily every now and then, i also have a filter on the breather to the tb and that gets oily as well
