Default New slp header design?

Hello everyone iam in the search for finishing off my exhaust headers and y pipe. i know the original slp headers and y pipe system sucked for ground clearance but i was wondering if anyone gave the new design a try yet? I have been leaning towards just getting kooks headers and y-pipe but lately ive been thinking of going cheap with hookers or pacesetters inorder to mod more since its the season in ny to drive the car... Anyways this has been driving me nuts lately in trying to make a decision My freinds that have f bodys all have kooks and they tell me i will regret going cheaper but i just wish kooks had a ceramic coating although there stainless just for the bling factor! Any inputs would be appretiated.

Stainless is best. There have been tests in Hotrod showing a coated header on a engine dyno not gaining and even it be a heat issue, plastic intakes dont soak.

The price of the new SLP from what limit info I have seen is on par with Kooks, QTP, Dynatech, or even ARH. Either way you cant go wrong. I would say go with a proven design.

yea seems like there is no way around it i know you gotta pay to play, and i dont mind that i was just hopeing there was a lewpoll(sp)? But looks like ill just keep saving up to get the kooks and have a guilty concious on how much i spent on a exhaust...

the only reason you'd regret going "cheaper" is cosmetic appearance. painted pacesetter headers will last just as long as any stainless set and give you almost identical results. you can get a tsp y pipe and set of pacesetter headers for half the price of any stainless set.

i'd rather use the extra dough on something to make the car faster. just remember how pretty jimbo's headers are as you are pulling on him with your "cheap" headers. none of my cars have been driven in the rain/winter and sit in a garage, so this contributes to my choice of painted headers over any of the others.

Yep, i drive mine in the rain and i will see how long the regular steel headers last. I drive mine in the rain so i will see. I bought the cheaper headers so i was already halfway towards the cam swap. Hell, i payed $370 shipped for my BBK longtubes and they slid right in. The entire swap took 4 hours and the hardest part was the spark plugs. Just because they are cheap doesnt mean they wont fit well or perform well.

Personally, I'd LOVE to see someone try the new SLP's. They look to be one of the nicest, if not the nicest header kits on the market right now. People complain about the price, but it's solely because they're hating on SLP. The proof in that is the SLP's aren't any more money than the ARH or Kooks headers, and few people hate on ARH or Kooks for their prices. At least with the SLP's, you get stainless AND coating along with it which you don't get with any of the other guys' stuff. The y-pipe looks pretty nice, too. I say go for it. What do you have to lose? They can't be junk, and you know the clearance has to be better because that was the biggest reason for the redesign. You'll be getting a very high quality set and you'll be Mr. Popular on the boards because you'll be the only guy with the new SLP's thus far (at least that I know of).

No, it's the other way around. The new design gives up a little low end torque for gobs of top end horsepower. The new design yields big gains over their old design according to SLP at the expense of a few ponies down low.

well i knew this would come about with different opinions, but thats interesting that no one has them yet or that anybody knows of. Is there a link for the llp headers just to check them out? Ill let the board know if i get the slp design but i would prefer to just buy headers first then a y pipe just to play safe with financials. Most likely causing me to go kooks if i go top notch or i may cheap out and get hookers/pacesetters.

?? pacesetters fit perfectly fine. i did a swap on my a4 z28 with coated pacesetters and they fit fine. headers will get rusty, but it will not affect performance or durability. the headers on my 72 elcamino were on it for 25 years, 15 of which it was daily driven in the snow, rain, etc in central indiana, they perform fine, but have some surface rust on them. oh no, the headers are rusty, they must be robbing horsepower haha.

there is nothing wrong with pacesetter headers. i have personally installed 4 sets with 0 problems. both coated and non coated...
