Re: A/C problem
Yes there all real close.
You can go with a junkyard one, but do it b-4 your current one blows up & puts a bunch of debris in the system.
The proper way to do these is to r&r compressor,accumulator/drier & oriffice tube.
Then the condensor should be flushed to get out any debris from old compressor goin south.
Then a long vacuum & recharge.
This is why the repair at a shop can get expensive.
Most all compressor mfg/rebuilders require these steps to give a warranty on their product.

Re: A/C problem
Well you're not the only one. Mine just went out at 36.5k miles and you guessed it, no warranty. So sounds like I win with the worst luck. Got a hilarious quote of almost $900. They quoted $385 for the condensor and I decided to check ebay and won it for $56.

Re: A/C problem
install isn't a prob i have hookups.
However it still sounds like there is a woodpecker in my engine bay even when i have the heat on. This leads me to believe its not the a/c compressor because when the heat is off the a/c compressor is off. So shouldn't it stop?

Re: A/C problem
If it is on max, norm, or defrost the compressor will engage regardless of temp setting.
EDIT; also seen compressors loose the end play in their mainshaft.
This causes the clutch hub to grind agaist pulley.
It can get bad enough (common) that the compressor will run constantly.
You can't turn it off it is mechanically linked.
