I wish I had taken pics of all the black gunk I pulled out of my intake runners when I put my new longblock in. If you could have seen that, you wouldn't ask, you'd just remove it.

Did the engine change so much between 00 and 01 where it wasn't needed any more? I wonder what changed to where all the 01/02 didn't need egr.

How hard is it to get rid of the egr?

You'll be buying different headers if you do/don't have egr. if you want to wait, bolt-on blockoff plates are available for the headers. I had to take my pcv out too, which i wasn't extremely happy about but oh well, had a hole in the hard line ($65 and you can only get the whole assembly). And my AIR pump broke physically where the intake line is, so thats out too. LOL AND like stated before LS6 intakes don't have EGR. So i'll be 0/3 on emmissions soon, unintentionally OF course... lol

this topic has been covered numerous times and a search would have gotten your answer to this, the consensus on the board is ditch it if you dont have to have it. for those asking how hard it is and if a mechanic can do it, anyone should be able to take out the air/egr. its just unbolting the system and then rebolting in blockoff plates in the manifolds or headers and the intake. yes it will throw a code but hurts nothing and can be tuned out. there are quite a few write-ups on this in the stickys!

the 01/02 cars run a slightly smaller cam and made the egr unnecessary to pass emissions
