Default Longtubes and visual inspection

I'm looking at getting an exhaust now that I'm out of school. I'm going to go with qtp and gmmg. Anyway, I've been reading the forums and a few people mentioned any longtubes will fail a visual inspection. Is this true? I live in snyder county PA and we just have visual inspections. My mechanic told me all of the emissions equipment just has to appear to be functioning correctly.

Now my question. If I get the QTP's that have the air option will I pass or fail my inspection? I have an 01 so egr isn't an issue. If I can't pass the emissions legally..., I'll have a few more options .

You'll fail a visual inspection if you have headers. Go your alternate route.....

Do your research on Y-pipes if you haven't already.

I imagine if you run a catd' Y-pipe your chances will be better, but any inspector who knows his way out of a paper bag will notice those QTPs pretty quick. If your mechanic is correct, you may not have much to worry about. If he's wrong though...

Well here in Texas we have visual inspections also . The inspectors have told me if you have headers and cats and mufflers with no leaks and your 02 sensors and no check engine light it will pass. Most inspectors dont know about the air system or the EGR, most look for 02 sensors in the front of the cat's not the back. You can even have cut outs as long as they are closed during the inspection. Check with your local inspectors and ask them what the are look for not what will not pass. Don't ask questions like will longtube headers pass?P.S. if you ask questions like that and they do the inspection and you fell they now put it on the system so if you go somewhere else with will look for the same thing....you now all the stuff that caused you to fell. Well they do that here. Trust me I know

If the inspector is really picky, then the LTs with catted Y would fail because technically its illegal to move the cats from the stock location. But he would have to be really **** to call you on that.

I failed at first because the inspector saw the egr/air block off plates staring up at him from the header. He told me just to mock the system up and Id pass. So i just bolted the tubes to the headers with my block offs still in place, and plugged the egr thing back in. Went back a week later and passed, he didnt even look for the air pump and he also knew I didnt have cats, just a bullet muffler that looks like it could be a "high flow cat".

Good enough for me. Thanks guys . I think fuseone is right, and if he's not oh well, we got a guy around here that'll slap a sticker on just about anything. I just got revved at by a 5.0 tonight on my way home from work that sounded waaay better than my stock ss. That just motivated me to get moving on this exhaust haha.

Suprisingly I passed visual inspection with LTs/ORY w/ a 3" high flow cat and a hooker aerochamber. No bribes or bullshit just because I had a cat and no codes.
