ypipe bang!
ypipe bang! alright, i had ypipe issues and changed the motor mounts to prothane mounts, had a custom y pipe built, had prothane tranny mount on the car at the time the ypipe was built.
Now i changed the prothane tranny mount with a stock rubber and my ypipe started to bang.
Took the car to another mechanic and they put the prothane mount back in. The car ran fine for a day or so, but now something is banging again against the floorboard..i even stuck a piece of heater hose in between as a temporary fix, but it doesnt seem to help. It doesnt scrape, but i get like a pop noise coming from the floorboard.
Could my shocks be worn to the point that the car is banging on the exhaust or is it something else? Or did the guys mess up when they installed the prothane mount again? I love paying people to mess my car up

maybe its something else and it isent banging, try to launch the car, as in giv some gas as the clutch is engaging so u feel that forward push, if u hear it there then its a banging issue i guess, btw it has nothing to do with ur shocks or springs

if i stomp on the gas, there is no noise..if im cruising down the street, its like it pops with the bumps in the road. its coming from the floorboard or under my seat..nothing on the passanger side.
i will check the tq arm bushing first thing tomorrow.. should i look for play or cracks?

ITs common for stock TA busings to just get old and start to come apart. the bushing should be night and tight and when they get old they just become super loose and lets the TA move all over the place.

I still believe its the torque arm bushing. The Prothane and all aftermarket Trans mounts are around 1/4" taller than stock. This tilts the engine closer to level, throws off your pinion angle, and since the torque arm is at a new angle it wears in the Torque arm bushing in a new spot and cause it to get loose. Also if your stock trans mount was broken or excessively loose this will also wear the TA bushing out really fast and cause a banging noise because the TA is mounted to the tailshaft of the transmission. If the trans moves at all your torque arm will also move.
I'd not get the mufflex bump stop though.. you already tried putting a piece of hose between the Y pipe and floorboard and the banging didn't stop. The mufflex bump stop will do the same as the heater hose mod just be a lot more expensive.
