Default another mileage thread! =P

so i've searched and read quite a bit about getting better mileage. my car is 9 years old (since production) and i get about 15mpg in dallas (city driving) and on the highway the last time i drove it i got 28mpg (wow). but my driving is mostly city. i actually drove one tank of gas doing the "skip-shift" maneuver manually and got 17mpg. 17mpg is what i used to average all the time without shifting from 1st to 4th.

anyway, from what i read, the things to be done are plugs, air filter, fuel filter, maf cleaning, and upping the tire pressure. i'm saving the plugs for last since that job sucks, but i changed my air filter and no change in mpg. last night i did the fuel filter and added some fuel injector cleaner.

on the maf cleaning, i actually don't even know what the maf is or how to clean it. any help here?

and the tire pressure--what is a good, safe tire pressure to deflate/inflate your tires to in order to get better mileage?

my car has roughly ~65k miles on it and is an m6, in case that wasn't already obvious. and it doesn't matter if i drive it hard or soft, always 15mpg unless i do the 1st-4th shift.

maf= mass air flow
tire presure w/stock rims= 45 psi
air filter stay with paper fram, acdelco, etc
fuel filter idonno i guess there all the same
plug are a bitch so geat the best one you can afford

45psi are you serious? that seems a little intense. anybody else think that's right? i have 275/17s

stick with about 35 for gas mpg...the normal is rated 30

yeah 45 seems way to high. i am running mine at 32psi.

how much of a difference does seafoam actually make?

i always heard after you sucked up seafoam into the engine (not the oil, but through the brake booster line) that you had to change the oil after. is that true?

I only do 45 in our truck...that's pretty damn high for a sportscar. Really the best thing you can do is modify your driving style. Very light throttle application and shift really early. I got my POS DD car from about 27 to almost 29 by driving like a granny. Oh and you could always get rid of some extra weight which would help you at the track too!

i started running 45psi and it did make a differnce lol, long stroy on why i started but it work hell if i know why but it does for gas milage

About cleaning the MAF - Disconnect the bellows from the TB and unplug the MAF, then unclip your lid and remove the whole assembly. Then remove the MAF from the lid. When you clean it, spray ONLY electronic parts cleaner or dedicated MAF cleaner on the inside of the MAF. Anything else will leave an oily residue (inc. brake cleaner) and will have adverse effects on performance and mileage.
