Percy seal-4-good issues
Percy seal-4-good issues anyone have problems w/ these sealing? i finaly found my leak and its comming from the gaskets. ive retorqued them but it only helped for like 20 miles. im thinking about getting GM ones but wanted to see if anyone else was running into problems w/ the percys. i bought these friggin things so i wouldnt have to take the headers down again. this is what i get.
But did you torque them correctly or did you just retorque them after you felt like they were leaking? The directions that come with the gaskets say:
Re-torque Seal 4 Good gaskets 1 – 2 times after the engine has been at full operating temperature and then cooled. Periodically check fasteners for loosening.
Upon install of my headers along with the Percy's seal-for-good gaskets, my installer could not get the passangers side to not leak.
I took the car home anyway, and figured I'll re-tourque them after its heat cycle and cool down. Which I did, on both sides, all bolts had play and took to more torque, I snugged all the bolts, both sides.
Everyday after driving the car, I'd go back out later that night, after it cooled, and check the bolts again. Many needed more torque, but each day fewer bolts needed attention and they needed less torque to snug down.
This went on for about a week, finally all the bolts were snug and I had no leaks. It was a PITA, and I too almost went back to the GM gasket, but like you, I really didnt want to swap out the gaskets 'again', when these were supposed to be the best.
Give it time and patience, I'm sure your gaskets will also eventually seal tight.

Percy's gaskets suck! I've tried using the Seal-for-good gaskets on my SBC collectors and they constantly leaked. Went back to copper and never had to look back. Shitty part was that the Percy's were more expensive than copper (they didn't have the copper in stock when I needed them). For my '01 I just went with a new GM set when I installed my Kooks and they have since been leak free.
thanks guys. im def going to get GM's. i would have in the beggining but i figured id spend a few more dollars and not have to do it again. fucked by the fickle finger of fate again.
