Okay...let me get this straight. You want more power, but want the car to remain quiet? Is that what you are after? That is doable even with headers if you get the right muffler (like leave the stock one in place). The SLP y-pipe won't buy you much of anything at all.

You do realize that if you want to keep up with a car that has been modified with the LS6 parts, you probably need to do the same, correct? The LS6 heads and cam, while they won't add a huge amount of power, are still a nice upgrade over the LS1 stuff, which you've already found out.

If you want that kinda power, you are gonna have to sacrifice something - you might end up having a car that is a bit louder, or you are gonna have to sacrifice the money to add parts that can make good power with the stock exhaust (like a nice set of heads and a mild cam). It can be done, but is usually the road less traveled on this board from my experience.

If you get good motor mounts you'll have no banging problems either way.

EXACTLY a $60 set of poly motor mounts will save you from TONS of clearance headaches.

and with the manifolds off its an EASY job to swap them

my exhaust is routed 1/4" from my frame...no clunking at all

Hell I have Kook's LT and their catted Y-pipe both used when I bought them and from two different cars and I don't have any clearance issues or banging. My car is a 98 ss with 50K on the clock. I guess it just depends on the car and somewhat of the brand also. Since mines work now I won't go to the poly until it starts have those banging and other problems.

I loled when I read that..

To the op:
On offense, but just judging from how you talk you should do some searching and looking around before doing throwing money away. A set of cheap pacesetters and ypipe would be 10x better than just an slp ypipe.

The SLP Y-pipe doesn't get rid of the biggest restriction; the factory passenger-side pipe between the exhaust manifold the the cat.

No gain in HP but I did notice a deeper tone to the exhaust.
So worth it on sound only.

I'm kicking around the idea of LT headers with cats....have been for years.
I just fear check engine lights with them.

The check engine light is nothing to fear. Just delete the rear O2's and presto, no check engine light!
