Re: should i get a 160* stat ??
Dang, I wish I would run 190*, I am running 210* all the time. But I'm down here in Fl. Well, from what I know(which isn't a lot!!), if you get the 160* stat, you will be running around 175*(correct me if I'm wrong) without tuning. $50 to run a lot cooler(in my case) would be worth it. Depends on what you think is worth it!

Re: should i get a 160* stat ??
I've read that depending on your fan settings, a 160* stat will keep your engine between 160 & 170 degrees +/-. I've always wondered, is a 160* stat going to allow proper PCM operation and/or oil thickness? I've heard rumors of certain PCM events that don't kick in until a later temp, and that a 160* stat won't let it get to that temp, depending on fan settings. Is there any truth to this, or that the oil does not get hot enough for proper operation? Also I know that a 220* motor will pass emissions easier, I believe...

Okay, a 160deg Tstat (at idle) will change nothing. The engine will still get up to the stock temp, if you still have the fans set to come on at the stock settings. The only difference is that the Tstat will open sooner, that's it. Now, if your moving down the road, have a fan switch, or have programming to turn the fans on at a cooler temp then yes, the car runs cooler. I'm in Houston and I need all the help I can get to cool the engine down. I think 210deg is too hot if I'm sitting in traffic so I got the 160 Tstat and a fan switch. Next I will be getting a gauge that shows me the actual temp of the engine (what an idea!). Hope this helps.

to activate the stat u would have to have the hpp3 which i have no clue if u have, but if u dont i would suggest doing the fan switch mod. i did it and it dropped me about 5 degrees during normal conditions.

The water pump works the same no matter what Tstat you have installed. The only difference is when the coolant starts flowing thru the radiator......
