truthfully i am not doing heads because A.) i dont want to spend the extra money i dont have B.) i just mainly want to beat the majority of people in my area not be the fastes C.) i wanted it to sound badass
I think 3000 Would be way high on the spectrum. I think the heads we would consider would be a fair amount cheaper. For people going cam only obviously money is an issue or they would go H/C. I dont really want the sound of a cam yet. I scare off enough races as is. The root to the question I guess is if I can pick up a good set of Ported/milled heads would it be a bad idea on the stock cam? I did try a search but couldnt really find the answer i was looking for.
My H/C/I cost me just over $7,400.00 but I went with the Trick Flow heads, Harland sharp shaft mount roller rockers, SVO 30# injectors, FMS push rods, LS7 lifters, FMS ported oil pump, FMS LS6-2 Timing chain, Ported Fast 90mm intake and a Nick Williams TB, and a FMS custom ground Cam Motion cam Shaft. So $3,000.00 is alot more on the lower end of the spectrum considering you pay that much for Trick Flow Heads and everything needed for them..

It's has to do with making more power for the money. If you are on a budget and want to make the most power possible for the money you are going to spend (and don't want to run N20) then the cam is likely to yield more increase in power that your looking for (and most people just want that sound). If you did a head swap on a stock engine with the usual bolton’s I think you could gain 20-30 hp. Budget heads are very good for the money. There are a few companies on this site that CNC port stock heads and sell them for under $2,000.00. I wanted to buy a head that I could use for future builds and the Trick Flow seemed perfect for my future plans. My opinion is the budget heads are only good for stock or just over stock CI motors with stock style intakes (again that's just my opinion) and cannot be used to maximize larger displacement engines as well as an after market head like AFR or Trick Flow.
