from Flowmaster 80 series to Hooker Aerochamber
Ok I'll throw my hat into the ring as a flowmaster owner. I have a bone stock LS-1 in a 98 Camaro with American Racing Headers and their catted Y-pipe followed by the Flowmaster Cat back with an 80 series muffler. To me the car sounds good from the inside. I don't have any rasp or noticeable drone. This is probably due to the fact that I do have cats on the car.
Before the flowmaster I ran the SLP LM 1 and without cats it was raspy as hell, with cats, no rasp. I changed to a cat back with an actual muffler because my car was too damn loud and I was getting complaints at my local autocross.
I am considering adding a cut out for use when the car is at a "noise restriction site" even though it looks like I'll gain "only" 8 hp and 9 ft-lbs of torque. However, with the limited amount of mods we are allowed to do, and the fact that this is a race car, I think it will probably be worth it. If I do install the cut out, I will do back to back dyno runs to see what my gains really are.
