Do I really need an MAF? Hey guys,
Do I honestly need an aftermarket MAF? I have heard arguements for both. What exactly will this provide me with in terms of increased performance? If I should get one, what is the difference between the sizes and which should I go with? Thanks for all the input fellas.

Re: Do I really need an MAF? The people who gain big power, are the ones whose
tune is off (rich) to start with. It's a crap
shoot because none of the aftermarket MAF makers
publish any real data, regarding their products'
fidelity to the GM frequency / mass airflow curve
that the PCM expects - just the usual hype. So
you see a lot of folks either living with knock
(bad), spending time & effort tuning to make up
for the new piece (it's a hobby, I guess) or
going back to stocker. There are also some guys
who are happy with the aftermarket ones. But I
see more complaints than rejoicing, all in all.
Move it to the bottom of your mods wish-list, and
go for the more effective things first.

Re: Do I really need an MAF? technically...you dont need an maf at all...but you gotta tune for volumetric eficciency(not an easy thing to do...but the aussies seem to know how to do it)...and you'd have to reprogram the pcm to not care about maf.....
