Default ms4 cam

im lookin to put a magic stick 4 cam in my 99 camaro. it has 132000 miles on it and i wanted to know if i MUST replace the pushrods and so forth. also its a daily driver so will the gas mileage go down the drain or will i barely notice it. and one more thing. is the 50 rwhp- 75 rwhp gain really what i will get out of it. thanks

1.) yes u will need to upgrade pushrods, and springs......

2.) ur gas mileage all depends on ur tune and how u drive! with my cam i actually picked up gas mileage and mine isnt much smaller than the ms4

3.) and yet again the power increase depends on the tune! timing, a/f etc makes a huge difference

my opinion, seein as how many miles u have, i wouldnt go as big as the ms4! u can make equal to more power with a smaller cam, have a better idle/low end, as well as u dont have to spin it as high to make power.....but just my .02

Yeah the base circle on the MS4 is even smaller than an LS6 cam so you will have to have longer pushrods. You will also need a set of springs that will handle the .649 lift! Just a trick I used get the right length pushrod with no checker. Measure the base circle of a stock cam. Measure the base circle of the MS4. Dived by two and then add that number to the length of a stock pushrod (7.4") Had a very quite valve train with a clean wipe pattern. I use this trick when I order my cam and pushrods so I dont have to wait on them after I install my cam.

stock pushrods will bend and stock springs will break causing the valve to drop ion the engine and destroy your motor . saw a thread in the internal section of a bent pushrod that carved out part of the head .

honestly ur best bet is to get one custom made for you desires! get ahold of predator or patrick G or even TSP and tell em what u want, trust me they will hook u up!

but from my experience i like my 232 234 on 112 lsa....pulls from 3k on up and drives very well on the street....idles nice as well

heres a sound clip, but it sounds much meaner in person, especially with the cutout open

thanx, like i said it sounds 10x better in person, the camera doesnt do it justice at all. at my local shop they charge 200 i beleive for installation....am i able to do it YES, do i have the time or tools NO

nothing overly complicated, just time consuming for someone who doesnt do it for a living. i would keep shopping around, b/c 1k for a cam swap is insane, i paid less than that for my cam package and install.

I'd go with an MS3 or TR Trak cam if it's a daily driver. Anything larger will have horrible streetability. Honestly, I think you'll be happier with a smaller, more torque based cam like a 230R if your driving the car everyday. MS4 and Trex have no low end torque and are terrible in stop and go driving. No power under the curve.

You'll definitely need new pushrods, lifters, valve seats, retainers, timing gears and chain, oil pump, if an A4 a larger stall, and while your at it, an U/D pulley.

P.S. this thread belongs in the internal section.

Do it man. I like the MS4. HERES MY 2 CENTS.....guys who say they have streetability issues with big cams, dont like to use their clutch or have bad tunes.
Upgrading your cam is like anything else, to really reap the benifits of one part, you need to upgrade another. Also, if you do decide to go with the MS4, I would highly suggest investing in some roller rockers also.

it doesnt matter how many miles are on your engine for the ms4 cam, but you will need to flycut the pistons for this cam, just get some hardened pushrods 7.400 stock length prc dual valve springs rated at a 660 lift, break a spring you wont drop a valve with the duals! i would def buy a new oil pump with that many miles, just get a ported ls6 oil pump there are like 130 bucks!

Flycutting depends on the car. You should check the PTV clearance.

As long as the heads have not been decked you do not need to flycut. This has been covered on here extensively in the past. Some aftermarket heads that have had the combustion chamber size changed will have to, but with the stock size everything does clear, still a good idea to have it checked. This is also means running the stock ratio rocker arms
