I have a couple of videos, both done with the same camera, with and without cats.
Corsa Cat back, no cats, Dynatech LT & Y pipe.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwTktfUB3og

Corsa Cat back, with stock headers/pipe including cats.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jP7lQiBPZI

Drive by in 2nd gear, Corsa Cat back, no cats, Dynatech LT & Y pipe.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_QC4dpaXrE

At 2000 RPM and WOT, it sounds like a Gatling gun. Above that RPM its okay.
I have the cats back in at the moment for emissions test. The cats do dull the sounds, but in a good way, with no cats it does sound raw/raspy. Many people have commented on how loud and good it sounds with the cats in.

I personally got the Corsa due to the nice looking tips.

While it's not made anymore, SLP's Dual/Dual fits your bill (you win on the tips, they're ugly). I swapped my TD's for the Dual/Dual and couldn't be happier. I also run a DMH E-cutout for when I want to act like I'm 17 . It was everything I wanted.....quiet at idle (cam, ORY), quiet at cruise, awesome at WOT. And since the tips were so awful, I got some nice Corsa 3.5" clones. I've got the perfect exhaust! And just like the Corsa, many have shown little to no gains on the dyno with the cutout open versus closed.

I'm not comparing the two, just saying that the D/D is a viable option that was also cheaper. I have heard the Corsa on a H/C car with cats though and I thought it sounded great. It was certainly louder than the D/D at WOT which isn't a bad thing. If I could change one thing about the D/D, it would be sightly louder. But I wanted noise control and that's exactly what it did for me. Maybe with some mileage it'll get a little louder.

Here's my car on the dyno with a Corsa catback and the cutout open. Make sure you turn the volume WAYYYY up to get the full effect. Tell me what you think:

These photos do no justice to how frigging loud this thing is. Even the dyno operator made a comment about how ungodly loud it was

I disagree on the Dual/Dual. It's totally silent during cruise like the Corsa, yes, but while the Corsa is tame during acceleration, the Dual/Dual is like a gust of wind. While the Corsa screams at WOT, the Dual/Dual never gets loud. I could never drive my car with the Dual/Dual on it. It doesn't make any noise. Driving my car with the cutout closed with the Corsa catback is borderline as quiet as I can handle it. Anything less and I'd sell my car due to boredom

Corsa handles the volume management much better than the Dual/Dual. Also, it's important to note that when the Dual/Dual was in production, it was a $600+ catback as well. Corsa was much cheaper back then due to a recent large spike in stainless steel prices, so when the Dual/Dual was in production, the prices were similar. If the Dual/Dual were still made today, I could only assume since the prices were similar back then, they'd be similar now.

I've never thought of a "gust of wind" when I've heard others or mine, but to each their own. It's exactly what I wanted, and remains very popular and much sought after to this day.

Not quite... the original "Dual/Dual" was what came optioned on some SS's and Firehawks. Big stainless muffler, not two smaller cylindrical ones like the system pictured. I had one and ended up selling it... why? Who the hell knows...
