Default Need some exhaust help

I don't post much on here, but have been visiting this sit for ten years now. I got a 99 Z with flp headers and ory. I am going to be putting the cats back on' but I just can't get the or pipes off for nothing. Just wanted to know if anyone had any tricks to get these clamps and pipes off. They have been on my car for about 7 years now. Thanks for your time!!!

Is it clamped with the U style clamps? You can try to heat them up with a tourch.

i bought an exhaust pipe separator specifically for situations like this. It clamps both sides of the pipe, then screw jacks separate the pipes with force.

well if you have the clamps loose enough, a 2 x 4 and a hammer works like a charm

Mine was like super tight like that, I had to use a hole-lotta put-out to get that baby off. Did you try that?

The clamps are still on the pipes. I took the bolts out and they still will not budge at all. Probably a dumb question, but could you explain the put-out? Thank you all for your time on this.

Well, since I wasn't saving my old setup, I put a pipe wrench on the old pipe and shook the crap out of it and they "broke free" of each other. Put-Out is just slang for elbow grease in the oil-field.

k i had the similar problem, have you tried the 2x4 yet, it doesnt put any dents on it, and you have to work both sides out evenly..

If you look at the u clamp there are three sections of u channels on it connected by a band. Take a punch and a hammer and tap on the edge where the u channel starts under the bolt. Sometimes you have to knock the three sections loose one by one. They used these clamps on the exhaust on turbochargers. It should come right off if you do that.

You are correct about the three pieces of the clamp. That makes sense so I will also try that in the morning. Thanks.
