Default E-Cutout or not??

Have a 3" exhaust single exhaust system with a flowmaster 80series in the back. This is a stock 00 motor with only a shift kit, 3500stall, 3:42, tune, custom CAI. At the track i ran a 12.9@ 104mph. my 60' time was 1.78 with MT streets. So by adding an E-cutout, will it make a difference in time?? It looks like i got great low end but not enough top end. Thought maybe by doing this it would even things out. THanks

i may be wrong but a cut out will get rid of some low end and will help up high, but im not an expert, just what i have read.

i honestly dont know how much faster that single mod will get you. im sure someone with a cutout on here will chime in and tell you something better.

A 3" cut-out is worth a tenth in the 1/4 mile. I've proven it on several vehicles. You will ususally cost a hundreth or so on the 60ft, but it'll make that and more up across the rest of the 1/4 mile. A manual 3" cut-out is cheap HP IMHO. It's a good bang for the buck. The electric cut-outs are convenient and cost quite a bit more.

I have a setup similar to you with an 80 series, and I run .3-.4 slower at the track with the cutout closed...

Just a little food for thought...

Also, I have a E-Cutout because at the track I go to doesn't allow open cutouts...

So I do my burnout through the Flowmaster and open the cutout while I stage... works out great...

That is one of the parts that sucks about a cut out. When it is closed you have killed your closed performance.

My 412LS2 made:

519rwhp thru open Y no cats or cat back.
512rwhp thru a Magnaflo no cats
478rwhp thru Random Tech metal cats, dual cutouts closed and Magnflo
511rwhp thru Random Tech metal cats and open cutouts

All pulls were within 2 days.

Long story short, my new set up will not have cutouts. The cat back only hurt the hp by 7rwhp. Not worth the big street loss IMO. It also means your never have the right tune in the car all the time. You can only tune for one or the other restricition.

Well the whole reason why i was thinking cut out was because some guys over at the 12sec club have high mph with about the same time as i do and there motors are about stock. Not much difference in my set up. They all have great TOP speed time but in my car i have great 60' times but low mph..... just trying to figure out what the deal is.

Worth at least a tenth in 1/4 mile and 1 mph, have had numerous runs opened and closed, but I still have stock SS muffler.

So do you think i should spend the money for a cutout? or just cut off my muffler and go straight pipe for that race day and see what happens, or are we talking something totally different now in gains?

Does it hurt your car to drive it with the cutouts closed if its tuned for the cutouts open?

Sometimes when im driving a girl home like at 4 am or somethin i dont always wanna have the noise, but of course id want the tune to be with the cutout open to take advanatge of the power increase of a cutout so that im not running the car through the cats and its mufflers.

I dont have an fbod yet but probably soon, and i figured that when cops are around (lots in my area) i could just run around with the cutout closed and have the mufflers and the cats tottally tame the sound down.
