Default Nasty "buzz" when decelerating in gear or shifting

The title pretty much says it all- I have an absolutely disgusting sounding rattle/buzz coming from somewhere under the car when either letting off the gas in gear or pressing the clutch to shift under acceleration. It's definitely tied to RPMs, and much more noticeable at higher revs. It sound something like this during acceleration:

whoooooooo-BZZZZZZZZZZ-whoooooooooooo-BZZZZZZZZZZ (the "bzzz" is when I shift)

If I had to guess, it sounds valvetrain related. It's always been there, but has been downright terrible since adding the headers a year ago (since the stainless acts like an echo chamber vs. the cast iron manifolds). I'm hoping I'm wrong, but running out of ideas. My Corsa is welded so it's not a leak, I've changed header gaskets three times and smoke tested those for leaks, and I even cut out the Corsa mufflers and replaced them with Magnaflows- still sounds like a big can of rattly *** when I let off it. It's at the point now where I can't even enjoy a drive with the windows down.

Suggestions? Anyone else had the problem and cured it? Commence speculation!

Forgot to mention- LS6 with stock internals (just bolt-ons) and a T56 manual.

Caddy? I would take the serp belt off and fire it up COLD and give it some soft revs to see if its in the pulleys.

Interesting.....thanks for the tip.

I've been leaning toward a weak exhaust valve spring, but this would be a lot easier to test.

Any other thoughts?

As many hard core LSx guys are on this site, I'm surprised I've only had one theory posted so far. Anyone else run into a similar issue or have a guess?

Well it is kind of a vague statement. Possibly try posting in the CTS-V section and you might get a better response.

is it only when shifting and at higher rpms? how high of rpms? is it harder to get in gear than it used to be? has it ever fought you trying to take it out of gear? has it ever tossed itself out of any gears? if so it sounds like the transmision in my new trans am when I bought it. if those are the problems it is probably the transmision and not the motor or anything else. thats just my 2 cents tho

Not too many of the guys in the CTS-V section are knowledgeable about the inner workings of an LS motor. Lots of appearance mods and bolt ons in that section, but very little internal work save for the odd cam swap here and there.

It's the exact same engine that's in the Z06, so I think I'll find better help here in the GenIII section than there.
