Default Tried and True 6.0L Engine combos???

Hi all,

My 1990 Firebird's 3.8L Buick Turbo V6 recently took a poop. I have a 67k mile LQ4 pulled from a 2002 Yukon. I want to put the motor into my Firebird over the winter. Im looking for some proven combos for all around street duty with some good speed in the 1/4 mile as it will be occasionally be driven on the track. The car has a TH400 that Ill be retaining as well as a 3.23 10-bolt from an 01 TA.

What I'd like to see out of the combo is 450+rwhp, 450+rwtq. Im looking for a N/A setup because Im having no luck with the Forced Induction haha!

Any advice on a good build from cam all the way to injectors would be sweet!! Im considering all options! If I need to post anymore info let me know and Ill supply what I can.

Wouldnt mind seeing some different angles on the LQ4. Are any shops willing to take your LQ4/9 and fit it with 402/8 components? Thats what I really want to know. If I Could save some money using my block it would be awesome.

Definately going Fuel Injection and Head and Cam. That carcraft article is showing 480 flywheel HP with a Hotcam, and single plane intake. Might get a smidge over 400rwhp in the car. Any other ideas?? I see lots of LQ4/9 Budget stuff!!!

What does "budget" mean to you?
I'm building a 370ci (.030" over lq4) with forged pistons/rods, TSP ported heads and a big custom hydro cam.......shooting for 475+rwhp N/A (625+ on spray) with a $4k max budget. Takes some parts hunting and finding deals.

Long tube headers, FAST 92 manifold and ported throttle body, AFR225 heads with thin Cometic gaskets, LG G5x3 cam.

This will get you real close to 450 RWHP.

I wouldnt say I have that much budget. I have to buy parts to swap the engine into a Third gen as well.

Swap Headers: $800
Swap mounts: $85
Fbody Oil Panw/ sump and windage tray: ???
Fbody Accessories: ??? Can I use the 6.0L Alterator, PS Pump and Water pump and just use an Fbody pulley and brackets??

Im sure there are more parts I need as well before I even consider heads, cam and intake as well as injectors!!!

Pretty sure you have to drill and tap a hole for the alternator bracket. Other than that, all acc. will work.

The only thing you can used from the truck setup is the alternator. The waterpump pulley is spaced out to far for the F-body accessories. So unless you space out the F-Body brackets and line everything up, it won't work. I'm in the process of spacing mine out as we speak, so I don't have to buy another water pump.

Power steering pump is a different design and won't work with the F-Body bracket, due to it having a built in reservoir.

Im thinking of just a budget LS3/L92 Head for now. Would this be a good choice for 450rwhp when mated with a healthy cam, #42lb injectors, the L76 or fast92 intake, LT's and other bolt-ons? Any advice would be swell!!

Guys I'm building a LQ4 to replace the blown LS1 in my Sonoma. My set-up is going to be the PRC 2.5 heads (5.3) milled .02" with custom cam (thanks to predator-z) 224/236 @111+2, LS6 intake, UD Pulley, swap shorty headers with true 2.5 duals. Motor will also see NOS. I have no HP #s from my old set-up, but it ran 12.9s and 109 so I will use that for the comparison of my new set-up.
I would like to see around 113~115 trap with this new set-up.
